I think everyone should take time to play with traditional mediums, even if it’s just for fun and nothing comes from it! It’s great for getting yourself out of a rut. If you need any tips let me know!
I love seeing the process of this piece. It feels like such a treat to look at the sketches and experiments that preceded the final (incredible!) illustration. You’ve captured that foggy cold weather feeling so well!
I think I’m falling back in love with traditional medium but it seems like such a struggle… when you got stuck and put the image into procreate - did you finish it digitally? (Because to be fair I can’t tell :))
Yes I do tend to finish up in procreate! Since the main way for art to be viewed is on a screen, I think it’s important to optimize it digitally. If you compare the first image with the last you can see I changed her face and some colours. Also there are textures and colours that don’t scan well, so it’s nice to be able to control those a bit more later on. Traditional media is wonderful but can be unpredictable, so I highly recommend mixing in digital if that will help you get the look you want :)
I relate so much to the “waste of supplies” mentality haha -- I’m grateful for digital tools because I love exploring traditionally but I put too much pressure on it when it has to be “final.” Thanks goodness we can go back and forth!
Ran over here as quick as I could! Loved this peak into your process :)
I'm so glad! I was really struggling with what to write about these last couple months so I'm happy if this was at all interesting!!

Foggy weather works really well with pastels so it was really fun to do all the experiments! I'm so glad you like it!!
